I've pretty much given up with Pinnacle Studio.
All I want to do is capture from my VHS tapes, do some minor editting, with some simple fades and dissolves.
I don't want to have to juggle manual settings to have to get things working. Can anyone suggest a simple non complicated suite or set of progs please.
I have no more hair to pull out

    Thanks

You can grab ulead video studio se , version 7 , 8 or 9 in ebay for under $40.00 au .

    It cover's capture , and all type's of fade's between clip's , and other thing's .

A complete home dvd authoring suite from input to output .

You also get the best in nstc to pal , pal to nstc framerate conversion tool , it's perfect .

Version 9 can convert wmv , and mov ... and produce lpcm audio .

It's in my video kit ...

IMO, Pinnacle Studio has had chronic issues with getting from point A to point B without errors, retrys and false "patch" fix promises.

ULead Video Studio works well if you take the time to learn it. Get at least v8 or v9.

VHS capture is the most common "requirement" but also the most difficult to do.

If you were saying you wanted to edit a MiniDV camcorder tape, now that is easy. VHS isn't.

Simple answer is a stand alone DVD recorder even if the manual is difficult to understand.

But what about simple editting and transitions?

Simple editing can be done with a DVD recorder with hard disk. No transitions yet.
