Have an AVI which I need to play on the laptop (AMD64 3200+, 512 MB, 80 gB). Other non-DivX .AVIs play fine in WMP. This one AVI yields no play in WMP-10 (errors out with C00D1199). Gspot won't reveal its codecs and renders just fail. The application called AVIcodec shows the video codec as "DivXNetworks Divx v5" so I figured I'd just use the DivX Player. The audio codec is listed as "PCM" in the AVIcodec app. When the AVI loads into the DivX Player, it shows that the movie is 1 hr 22 mins 6 seconds long. But when it plays in the DivX Player, I get only 16 seconds of what appears to be some sort of movie "preview" or trailer footage including the audio and some titling above and below the letterbox frame. And it then it stops at the 16 second mark. I do not believe the trailer (if that's what this is) has completed.
These are the three lines of data on the AVI reported by AVIcodec:
File : 692 MB (180 MB), duration: 1:06:19, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 42 %
Video : 164 MB, 347 Kbps, 2.333 fps, 512*384 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Unsupported
Audio : 15.14 MB, 1411 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x1 = PCM, Supported
In the second line (Video) I'm not sure why it says "unsupported"
I believe the movie is still intact inside the AVI package though the AVI package itself won't play. At least that's what I "think". What would others do with this? Would it do any good to try to "extract" the video/audio somehow to another form?

Then it's corrupted. Simple enough. Try one of the AVI fixers, but I think it's a lost cause.

A lost cause, indeed! OK, now I learned something. Wasn't even aware that tools like AVIMedic (free) existed. Reports that the file is "99.6% fake" and cannot be repaired. So, we're movin' on...
Thanks very much for the reply. If I don't see you in the future, I'll see you in the pasture...
