  1. I live in sweden are trying to convert NTSC tapes into DVD that can be played in sweden (PAL)

The stuff i bought first was:
Hauppage PVR 150 to capture the movies into the computer
and a PAL VCR that was able to view NTSC tapes.

My problem is that the PVR 150 cant capture the signal (Since its not a real NTSC signal) so if i understand correctly my only alternative is to buy a NTSC VCR? Could i use this one? http://www.world-import.com/nv-j50am.htm

I don't see any specs on the site you linked to that spell out any specs, or anything to say it is a full NTSC signal. It may be, but according to the site's FAQ, any vcr with a built-in convertor will be inferior. Maybe someone has experience with this or similar models and will post a good answer.

I have read threads where people have gotten a NTSC vcr & then bought one of the transformers listed at the site from your link. OTOH, while they can be found very cheaply here, no idea what it would cost you. Sure you could buy online from North America where they'd ship, but don't know about duty costs or taxes.

ALso will your card handle NTSC? Is that one of the companies that makes NTSC & PAL versions, and if so, will they accept the NTSC not using tuner?

    You are correct,
Your VCR will probablly output a so called PAL60 signal when playing back a NTSC videotape.
At the moment the Hauppauge PVR150/500 series can't handle that signal.
But it seems in the latest (Pre-beta) drivers they have just started to support this video mode.
    (I requested it too )
But at the moment there is no information how to get it to work.
Hopefully more info will be available in the next driver version.

Take a look here for more information:
SHSPVR: PreBeta Drivers 2.0.35.24034 32/64Bit OS

Also , They finally seem to have fixed the ongoing line-in audio problem with those new (Pre-Beta) drivers..

  4. I solved this problem by buying a cheap true NTSC video off ebay.

    Hey Bjurta,

Did you solve this problem in the end? If so how did you do it?

I have the same problem, got a UK PAL video that plays NTSC tapes, but doesnt play true NTSC only the PAL60 version. I get black and white images when I play it in.

I think I might have to do what CheekyKid said and buy a cheap US video player.

  6. I used to get black and white images too when i was playing the recorded dvd.I found a 4 head NV-SD320 panasonic that plays pal as well as ntsc 3.58/4.43 and the problem with the output issue is solved. However when i connect the usa video to my tv through a scart adaptor i hear only a distorted sound without video. If i conect it directly to the composite/rca inputs of the tv without the adaptor it's fine. What can be the problem? I do want to have the scart adaptor in place so i can connect the video to my macrovision buster device
