So should he??? (inspired by dv8ted2)

I would imagine his first choice would be Spielberg to direct since they've been best buds since film school and worked well together on the Indiana Jones movies.

I feel that while 6 movies has done a good job in exploring the far away Galaxy more stories could easily be found.

Maybe they could do a trilogy after JEDI and show the founding of the Republic.

Now I bet everyone would be screaming to do the first Timothy Zahn trilogy. That would be an excellent story to buy the rights to (or back from since they didn't create the universe?????). Anyway that would be interesting except that in the "reworked" versions of the movies it would appear that the collapse of Coruscant was instantenous. If you remember in the special edition/dvds you see a clip of a celeberation on coruscant and the toppling of a statue (presemubably of Palpatine). In the Timothy Zahn series and other books the Rebellion still had to conquer Coruscant. Now of course it isn't explicit that the planet seen was Courscant. Or if it officially was they could explain it as a mere "uprising" that was later crushed and order was reestablished.

It would be interesting to see if after a few years break from Star Wars whether or not Lucas authorises some one else to go ahead with a new saga.

    passing the blame Yoda?

I don't care who does what as long as I enjoy the movie . I've also no doubt they will release new stuff in the future, it would be silly not to with the potential market available

Originally it was to be three trilogies - middle, beginning, end. Does the world need another three ? I don't think the last three justify it, but since when has hollywood listened to the critics ? If they must (and they will, eventually), then he should be executive producer only. Get a decent writer and director in to do the work. Lucas is an awful writer and an average director.

I don't think Speilberg would be interested in directing a Star Wars film, unless George died mid-shoot. Then he might finish it off out of friendship. Otherwise, it would hold little interest. I would want to see some of the new, young action directors get hold of it. And no video game sequences, please (no pod race, no stupid machines to jump through, no more improbable, pointless sequences)

If someone else directs I'd watch more. But not by Lucas.

May David Lynch should be giving another shot at one?

If Besson had creative control and co-wrote the script, I'd buy tickets in a heartbeat!

I think Bryan Singer would work well too. Though its too early to give a grade on the new Superman movie he did. That may determine if he can do scifi besides Xmen.

Well there's going to be a big budget tv series and its going to be directed by someone else...Kevin Smith I believe. That should be enough for now don't you think?

Why?? Can't we be greedy and want more???

And as for the big budget stuff I wouldn't count too much on it. I remember reading awhile back that LUCAS had wanted to do the tv show relatively inexpensively. Even using consumer High def cameras rather than custom sony stuff they used on Episode 2 and 3.

  12. It doesn't just need a change of director it needs to go back to what made the original trilogy great.

You mean like, the (unbelievable) ending where dual takes place down in
    the hot lava ??

I tell you, if you've ever been near a large fire, you'd know how hot it
gets. How about those PBS/Nova shows about Valcano's, and how the team
has to ware special suits to keep them from "melting" away just from the
tremendous heat from the lava - 30 feet away (give or take) ..

But look at how close they were.. heck, they were *right over* the lava
less than a foot in some instances. I don't get it, but.. that's Hollywood

Anyone else think Tim Burton should have a go at it? Casting for a Sith Lord would brobably call Johnny Depp for the role. :P

If you listen to the commentaries on the DVDs they talk about "Star Wars physics" all the time. How you can hear noise and see fire in space, how that solar glider thing would really need wings like 100 times larger to actually work, etc... As they always say, its set "in a galaxy far...far away," so they can make up whatever rules they want. There are plenty of these pure fantasy elements in the original triology as well.

    Here, here.

George Lucas can direct until he's blue in the... arms?...face?... directing thing. Just please god, make him stop writing dialogue. Let someone else script the damn movies.

BBC News is reporting that the new Star Wars TV series is set to run at least 100 episodes. From the article: "The series will be set between episodes three and four of the film saga. It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up that remains a mystery to most film-goers. McCallum said there would be 'a whole bunch of new characters' and the series would be 'much more dramatic and darker.'"

See that's what I don't get, how are they going to make a series about Luke's childhood? Wasn't the whole reason he wanted to leave was because he was soooo bored? He was an aspiring pilot and maybe he ran into a couple of Sand People occasionally and perhaps he got kicked in the shins by a Jawa once...ok. But other than that he just did alot of farming and whining.

What new characters. Tatooine was nothing but a freakin' desert. "This week's episode: Luke discovers sand. Next week: Luke discovers sand castles. The following week: Luke discovers sand people."

I can hear the advertisments already.
