i tried reinstalling ffmpeg X and the library binaries, but this did not solve the problem. Anyone have idea what could be causing the error?

  2. It seem the problem is in your OSX install. Which is the version?

i have os 10.3.8. is there any way to trouble shoot without upgrading the os?

  4. 10.3.8 should work. Try to install the BSD Subsystem package from the additional installs eventually. Or try to reinstall OSX on another hard disk to see if it gives the same error there.

thanks, major. i am not sure if i have bsd subsystem pkg installed. by the error message, are you able to tell for certain that i do not have it installed?

  6. No, I'm not. Updating to 10.3.9 should also work.
