  1. Hey everyone, I have an AVI file encoded with Divx, and I would like to edit it in Premiere Pro 1.5. I can import the video, and put it on the timeline, but when I push play in the preview window, I can only hear audio, and cannot see the video. It's a little hard to edit that way If any of you have experience with Premiere Pro 1.5, I could use some suggestions!
    Thanks.

You can't edit divx directly in Premiere Pro. You can't preview the timeline until it's rendered. This will generate huge temp files as your divx is decompressed. Work in segments.

  3. Ah, I see. So there really is no way I can view the video as I edit it? Sounds very time consuming. Sounds like a job for Pinnacle Studio.

You can try to create a custom session, rather than the default DV..
This would require you to create a session with all the same values of your input clip.
You can confirm this by dropping the clip onto the timeline and observing whether there's a red line above the clip or not..Red represents rendering required..

    Custom session is one way.

Standard way to handle foreign formats (but one with preview codec) in premiere is to trim the clip in the preview window, then pull the clip to the timeline. Then add filters, etc. and "render the work area".

Only then can you preview from the time line.
