Hi everyine, I have im my possession a disk that was recorded from commercial tv. The main file has the extension .vro. My question is what software do I need to (a) play it back on my mac and (b) change it to a more useable format....
Thanks

Try renaming it foo.mpg, as it is most likely a multiplexed file with MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio.

Once extracted, they have been converted to MPEG-2 files that you can then edit with MPEG Streamclip, which is freeware. However, for MPEG-2 playback and conversion you'll need to get Apple's Quicktime Playback Component, which is $20, from Apple.
OS X will not, by default, will not allow you do anything with the VRO, even drag it to the drive. It will give you an error -51. (I/O error). There is a product that you can buy, called ReadDVD ($49), from Software Architects, that gives OS X the capability to read any DVD that were formatted in any version of the UDF format.
"popular recordable DVD disc types that can be erased and re-written, such DVD-RAM and DVD-RW discs, use the different VR format (“video recording format”) specified by the DVD Forum."
