  1. I've use winavi 7.1 to convert RM to MPG2. It was working fine, a few days later it shows an error. It says it has recoverd a serious problem and need to be shut down. I reformat my cpu it can convert but error comes again. Already tried K-lite codec, Real Alternative. Please help.

We would really need more information to reach any conclusion. However, you mention WinAVI and K-lite codec pack, neither one I would let within ten feet of my computer.

Try SUPER, it might work better. It's freeware. And get rid of any codec packs before they mess up your system any further.

If you post the exact text of the errors, that might help.

WinAVI won't mess up the computer, it's just not a very good program, IMO. You can do a search here for 'WinAVI' and may reach the same conclusion. They also spam us quite a bit, and I have that against them.

The problem with codec packs in general is that they install some needed codecs, but they can also install old codecs that mess up your newer ones, corrupted codecs and conflicting codecs. You can also do a search for 'codec packs' and see the problems they can cause.

The best way to add codecs is to find what you need by dropping your video into a program like Gspot and installing only that needed codec. Codec packs are a lot harder to remove than install, and if the mess up your existing codecs, you have to clean that up also. If they make registry changes, they can mess things up to the extent that a reinstall of Windows is sometimes the easiest way to clean everything up.
