The XPS M140's 14.1-inch widescreen WXGA LCD display offers 30% more viewable content than a 15-inch XGA display ( A Dell statement ).
This is that true that the amount of pixels on screen is a better viewing specification than the diagonal size of the screen ?

Well if your content is widescreen, then the 15" monitor will contain black bars and therefor less picture. If something was designed for a standard ratio display, then the extra horizintal resolution won't help. Take this website. Making it wider I don't think would help, so your extra viewable content is wasted.
