What type of files are you trying to burn (image, data, music)? Have you changed media? What type of media? Does it burn fine after it starts? Do you have enough free space on your drive? Is your drive defragmented? Have you added / changed any software or drivers recently?
I would love to help, but you haven't given nearly enough information.Google is your Friend -

Do you have the same symptoms when you try to burn a data disc? Is the burn time and/or speed normal after it starts burning?
I would expect what you are seeing is the time it is taking Nero load and convert the audio files. This could be caused by a fragmented drive, other processes running at the same time, or just Nero flaking out.Google is your Friend
