Can the Ps2 be used as a multizone DVD player?

Have a regular PS2 brought in Australia about 2 years ago.

Can this be used to play DVDs other then region 4?

I believe you will need a mod chip to play other regions.

There was also a disc that you could buy a few years back. You loaded it first, then dropped your movie in. Can't remember the name of it though.

Do you's reckon the setup screen when you load the ps2 without a disc in that comes up would have any info?

I typed PS2 and Multi-region into google and got pages of stuff. As I don't own a PS2, I'm not that interested in pursuing it further for you. There is plenty of reading and all your answers there.

yea, you will have to deal with one of those sketchy modchip dealers, most likely, but im fairly certain that they do still sell the discs......it's called dvd region free if that helps any......just google and im sure you can find one or two places that sell it....

Install a mod chip. But OTOH, a new region free DVD player is less than half the price of a mod chip (if you don't install it yourself), so...

You don't need a mod chip, try the Action Replay Max, it makes your Ps2 multiregion. Depends on your version ps2 though as to which AR to get.

I got some at bestbuy for $5 each when they were on sale.
