i recently found this forum and it seems the best place for me to get some info. i have been burning dvds for a while and learned everything on my own , but recently i came up upon a problem which i got a little info on it but not much. that is why i am asking and hoping to get some help here. first i want to start by saying that iam only trying to educate myself on the subject , nothing more. i am not promoting or trying to do anything that is illegal or come into any copyright stuff. now with that being said,(i do not have or have downloaded any vod files) i assume that vod files can be burned on to dvd. if so how is this process done? and what program(s) are used.if anybody can shed some light on this issue, it would be very much appreciate.

As long as the codec is correct most Divx capable players will play VOD files burnt to media. You would burn them just as you would any data disc. To learn more - https://vod.divx.com/help/#faq18

ok,i think i get it, from the reading i did. the divx player is used to play the movie, butit gives you the option to burn the movie to a disc. i thought that a movie had to be authored usually using tmpegnc. so how it will work in this case , because it tells you that you can burn it ,but does it author it also. this is the part i am a little confused......

If it's a compatible Divx data file, it can be played on a Divx standalone player. Either from a data DVD or CD disc. If not, you would only be able to play it on a computer. You would have to convert it to DVD compatible video and audio format and then author it if you wanted to play it on a regular DVD player.

You need an MPEG encoder program. There are quite a few in 'Tools' to the left. I use TMPGEnc encoder for quality, and there are others. Some of the all-in-one converters like DivxToDVD work well, but generally at a lower quality than the standalone encoders.

If you look to the left again in 'CONVERT' you will see guides for encoding to MPEG. <<<<<<

Also look to 'What is' DVD to see the DVD format.

  7. Isn't a lot of Divx VOD content DRM protected?

Still just for "educational" purposes ?

    Isn't VOD effectively DRM-ed renting ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
