Is it possible to play MKV files witch contains WMV3 Video? The same for AVI files with WMV3 Video.

It's not possible to play them with any videoplayer (QT, VLC, MPlayer). I also can't convert them to another Format, even ffmpegX fail's. What can i do to play or convert these files?

  2. On Windows, its easy :

Use a DirectShow based player, like

    MPC Media Player Classic
    TCMP The Core Mediaplayer
    Zoomplayer
    BSplayer
    Windows Mediaplayer
    etc.

and all should work fine. On Linux only mplayer and maybe Xine should work.

Quicktime has no MKV support at all, and the VLC devs refuse to 'bow' the GPL idea by linking to closed source windows binaries, what is necessary here.

No idea why your attempts with mplayer didnt work, maybe you didnt compile it with WMV support ?

    Christian,

Mr.Ash is using a Mac. WMV3/9 support on a Mac is still a bit problematic, to my knowledge. I don't know if the Mac version of mplayer handles it.

The Flip4Mac Quicktime component can be installed for WMV (note: actual .WMV files), but I think that doesn't work for WMV in an AVI container.
