Did that idea ever take off?? I seem to remember them trying to target pda users for it. But really I can't ever see reading a whole book on a palm pilot (first of all I don't own a pda- well my cell phone has limited pda functions, its certainly not a full fledged pda).

I read ebooks on my PDA regularly while I donate plasma. You have to sit there for about an hour with a needle stuck in your arm. I have trouble holding a book and turning pages with only one hand, so using the PDA with an ebook is easier for me.

They are still around, primarily for PDA users though. A Plain Ebook unit isn't really popular though. The best thing about it is If you drop it or set it down for a second to answer the phone, you don't lose your page.
I still buy regular books though. If I really like a book I get it in Hard bound. I can't stand paperback. Sure PB is cheaper, but the HB style looks better on my shelf and you don't get the lines from folds like paper backs get. Plus sometimes you have to wait for the PB to come out.
I always thought it'd be cool if they offered a free Ebook DL of a HB book you bought at a store. Like going to Barnes & Noble and Picking up a HB edition of Michael Crichton's State of Fear, and on your receipt you have a code to enter online at their site and you could get a free Ebook DL of the title. Or maybe it's a coupn code to get the title for only $3-$5. That'd be so cool. -
I think I read recently something about new tech is making companies think of giving ebooks a second try.
As long as they give me a way to import my own ebooks and its not too expensive I'm all for it. -
When I go on holiday, I shove a coule of dozen ebooks on my IPAQ, saves carting loads of paperbacks around.

Here's another site to add to the list...

Anyone can setup an eLibrary cheaply. I use a Toshiba Portege 3480 CT ultra light sub notebook. The Intel M 600Mhz cpu can handle the latest video training material as well as display a crisp black print on paper effect, which I prefer. I use TinyXP as the o/s and a super G wireless adaptor to transfer books or surf the web.
Most ebooks are cheaper than their printed counterparts, and there is almost no title you can't get in one eformat or another. PDA's cause eyestrain and eReaders like The Rocket are limited to specific eformats and won't handle graphics.
If you have cash to splash, the Fujitsu LifeBook P1510 is the best on the market, but the Microsoft Origami looks like it will be a winner too.

Wow I thought it was just another fad that died away. Guess I was wrong.

That always made me laugh. "look I ruined a $300 peice of electronic equipment to make a badly broken plastic LCD crane. If I pull the tail the wings move."
