Police in Los Angeles's plush Malibu district were hunting for the driver of a one-million-dollar Ferrari after the sports car was reduced to scrap in a dramatic high-speed crash.
The driver of the high-performance Ferrari Enzo, which retails for between 600,000 dollars and one million dollars and has a top speed of more than 320 kilometers (200 miles) per hour, fled the scene after the early-morning accident.
The passenger of the car suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene after the car struck a power pole on the legendary Pacific Coast Highway, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ron Haralson.
"We have the passenger, who told us the driver did flee from the scene," Sheriff's Sergeant Philip Brooks told Fox 11 News, adding that the driver was apparently unharmed.
"And we ... followed some footprints up the side of the hill in an effort to locate the driver," he added.
Authorities believe the Ferrari "was traveling at least 100 mph (160 kph), and it will probably be a lot more than that once we conclude our investigation," Brooks said.
The impact sheared the red Italian sports car in half, and the entire front section separated from the rest of the shredded vehicle.
"For a million dollars, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently, in this case, it did work," Brooks said.

So... we must make an example of this "driver" for what he has done to a work of art...
It's too bad money alone can get you one of those things, there should be all sorts of training you should go through for that sort of performance car. Hell for the money you'd think Ferrari would put you out on the track in one to get intimately familiar with the car at the edges of its envelope. Or perhaps we should limit the power of vehicles allowed on the streets here like they do in Japan. But then money can get you around that too.
At least in the aviation biz you need specific training for any jet and even high-performance props. But even then you get people who spend money on things they can't control. Such as this case of a celebrity pilot who murdered his two passenger when he flew into the ocean (CFIT) because he was a dumbass:

Ferrari does require a training course and track time to purchase one new -- IF you can even get one ..
but used/resale market there are no restrictions ....."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

So the guy* has either stolen the car or was drunk -- either way he's screwed (until the $1m lawyers step in)
* hate to say it, but absolutely no way we can put this down to a female driver -
e404pnf in that news story that BJ_M just posted it says that the "passenger" who stuck around is the record owner of the vehicle. He just claims that some german friend of his was the one driving and that he fled the scene. The guy was indeed drunk so its pretty obvious why he made up the phantom driver. He's still pretty damn lucky to be alive, shame about the car though. I hope they make him pay an additional fine for the cost of the police search for this made up German guy.
I bet you when they release the name of the guy he's some well known celebrity. -
