This DVD recorder is sold at walmart, compusa, circuitcity, bestbuy and also sold as trutech at target. I bought one last week when it was on sales for $79.00.
So far This is what my expereince with it :
* It works with DVD+R/W ($0.50 per disc ) and DVD+R( $0.10 per disc )
* It has many input source DVcam, front and back audio/video ( s-video too ), Its own TV tuner, and DVD itself.
* It can record 1.0 hour to 6 hours per disc ( quality vs time )
* It plays any DVD and Burned DVD, CD...
The goods :
* The recording quality is execellent on SP ( 2 hour per disc ).
* It can control the DVcam connect to its firewire port.
* It can record Copy-protected VHS tape (wow), with a proper procedure.
The er..
* The recorded DVD+R/W cannot be read by DVDshrink ( both 2.3 and 3.2 ).
* The DVD menu does not work well with POwerDVD on PC.
* The DVD spining sound from the player is kind of loud when playing factor DVD.
* When use Zoom to watch 2.35:1( or any ) movie, the zoom logo stay on screen, and does not go away.
The workaround so far..
* Copy the entire content in the DVD+R/W to a folder, and use TMPGENC DVDauthor for editing.
* The macrovision is only detected at certain time, so wind the VHS tape to the begining black section and start recording. If the segment that you want to copy is short, else use a macrovision remover.
So far it is a very viable replacement for the video capture or DVcam pass-thru for my vacation video, and covert my VHS movie to DVD.
I would like to swap my expereince and work around for people who want to share and discuss. I was late in buying one, just to save a $20.00. So far the experience is very worth while. It still lacks the refinement as a home player.

I just copy a VHS movie to DVR1600 on a DVD+R and filanlised it. DVDshrink work fine on it. So, unable to finalized DVD+R/W caused DVDshrink heart burn.
The movie is recorded in 3 hours LP mode, the copy look good on TV, but on a high res PC monitor, there are some noise, and dimmer than the orginal.
The Marcocopy prtection will paused the recoding for a few minutes, then the recording go on again. So to transfer a full length movie, a Copy Protection remover black box ix still needed. -
Just hook up Cyberhome DVD recorder to cable, and recorded a couple of show off the air.
The TV tuner of this Cyberhome is sub-par, so the result is just a step up from VCR. This DVD recorder is able to record at a much better quality, based on the DVcam and VHS->DVD result.
The work around maybe is recorded the TV show via a VCR video/audio output. Even it work it is still a pain.
