I use Virtual Dub and use Divx Pro 6.1 to encode. But most of the time, VDub crashes and says access violation and crashes. It says the error is divx.dll

    What do I do?

Uninstall Divx and any older versions of it. Then reinstall. That may not fix it, but it's a start. If you have any codec packs installed, you shouldn't have.

I believe the Access Violation was the program getting a bad address or the .dll is corrupted.

Its just had the harddrive wiped and windows xp reinstalled. Basically from fresh. Divx 6 is the only codec installed.

Are you using the latest version of VirtualDub?

Also, you might try contacting Phaeron (http://www.virtualdub.org/contact) about the crash and ask if there have been any conflicts or problems in using DivX 6 with VirtualDub.

I dont have a clue what it is but when I go to safe mode on my PC, the encodes work on that. For now, when I need to encode I'll just boot up in safe mode

Safe mode just uses the generic OS drivers. That would suggest one of your device or software drivers may be the problem.

I have no idea what is the problem. My friends builds PCs for a living and even he doesnt understand. I am looking to buy a new PC soon anyway. Had this one for 4 years.
