  1. Hello there, I am currently trying to transfer some of my VCD files to a DVD-r using DVD-lab. However, I am getting an error when I try to input them to the DVD-lab program.

    I get:
Cause: Not a 11172-2 or 13818-2 Video stream.
I originally made these VCDs from TMPGenc and MainConcept Mpeg Encoder. I thought they were fully compliant with the VCD standard, and I have never had any trouble playing them back from standard VCDs. So I am confused.

    I used this guide:
    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=251691

He doesn't mention anything about this particular error, and searching through google did not yield any results so I thought I would ask here. I've never really authored a DVD made from VCD files before, so I am a newbie at this. Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

VCD uses MPEG1, DVD uses MPEG2... Though it kinda depends on what exactly you're doing. WHAT are the file extensions you're trying to load into DVDLab?

  3. kschang....not entirely true...mpeg 1 IS technecally dvd complient..........only real thing that should have to be done is the audio needs to be re-encoded to 48khz and authored......how are you extracting the video from the vcd's? i'd suggest for starters, using vcdgear for the extraction, then follow the guide from there....

  4. With some searching over google, I found that VCDEasy can convert .dat files to the correct VCD standard that is compatible with DVDs. So I solved my initial problem. Now I have been playing around with DVD-lab, learning the ins and outs of the settings. Most of my VCDs are transferring correctly, but I am having trouble with others. Some of them do not fully convert during the demultiplex to elementary streams process. It will complete at about 78% and I will be missing some of the complete video. The video plays fine normally, so I am not sure why only select pieces are being truncated.

Is it a bad or skipped frame that could be doing this? Is there an analyzing program out there that can detect problems in video files? Do I need to re-encode the VCD files once more?

  5. Ok so I have tried a few different things, but I am still getting the same issues. I have tried VCDgear with error checking (was using VCDeasy before), and the files come out fine but when I try to set it up in DVD-lab, I am getting only partial files from some of my VCD files. They cut out abruptly or lose sound before the end. I'm not really sure what to do. According to VCDgear my VCDs are fine and compliant.

I've also tried demuxing the files with TMPGenc, to the same results. Every single time, no matter what I use to demux, I get the same cutoff in the files. So I guess it has some kind of error in the file, but I'm not sure how I can correct it.

    Any ideas?

TMPEG DVD Author will work. Mpeg1 is O.K. for DVD and it will convert the audio to DVD standard. It will work directly from the .dat file's.

  7. I want to thank everyone for the help so far. I have been trying quite a few things, and now I am trying out TMPGenc DVD Author Pro. Does anyone have any experience with the program?

The issue I am having now is that I have 3 tracks gathered from a central menu that will play when I insert the DVD. I want the "Play All" button to play every file in the sequence, but so far I can only get it to play the files from track 1. Then I have to manually go back to the title screen and choose track 2 if I want to continue the sequence. Is there any way I can link the 3 tracks together so that it will play all files, and not just the files in track 1? Thanks for any help.
