Pls help, i edit videos recorded from tv or vhs or handicam since i have a tv tuner, but d prob is hindi consistent pag burn ko, sometimes its perfect, but most of the time, the video and audio ay hindi sychronized, laging una ang audio.I used nero software, its always sa mid part ang hindi sabay. have 2 hard disks before 1 is 20g and the other is 40g. pls help
INTEL PENTIUM4 2.4 PRESCOTT, 256mb DDR PC333 MEMORY, INNO 3DGE FORCE 264MB VIDEO CARD, 256 mb DDR memory. 40GB hard disk 7200, lITE ON cd wRITER 52X32X52, WINFAST TV TUNER EXPERT EDITION.
Then i bought a 200gb 7200 harddisc, thinking dun me prob n add 512mb of mem so i hav a total of 768 mem na. i also bought a new asus dvd burn altho not yet tried it. but when i burn svcd using my old lite on cdrw, with d new hard drive n mem na. perfect for the 1st 2 but d prob set in again sa next burning ko.
I'm using nero complete version.
i have tried na rin windvd, n even tried to jas copy n paste sa cd, from d windows explorer, same thing happened, sometimes ok somtimes not synchronized.
my capture settings in my winfast tv tuner is mpeg 2 optimal quality, den when i burn na sa nero, its scvd, which is 480 x 480. me prob b dun, should i choose svcd din sa capture setting?

I'm assuming you are capturing the video in MPEG format? Is the video in sync after capturing? Or does the sync problem start after editing? Or after converting to SVCD?
If you drop frames during capturing, that can cause sync problems. Do you capture to SVCD size 480 x 480? (Or the PAL SVCD size) or other sizes?
Sometimes with MPEG format, editing can cause sync problems. You could use a freeware editor like cuttermaran. It helps to prevent sync problems while editing.
Those are the main sources of sync problems. -
Yes, I am capturing using mpeg-2 optimal quality setting with my winfast PVR, the capture resolution is 640 x 480. After capturing, the video is perfect, audio n video synch. the problem comes after I have burned them to SVCD. I usually consumed almost about the whole length of cd, and d problem appears in the middle usually. When I added video files to nero for SVCD burning, I edit them of course, cutting here n there. then I watch the edited parts if okay. Then after burning for almost 1.5 hrs, (does it really take that long? m using nero ) I watch the cd, and sometimes the results are perfect, but there are cds that there have audio video problem, I really wonder why, if the problem is my hardware, then it should always have a problem right, but out of 10 cds that i burn, maybe 5 are out of synch. usually audio comes first but that will always be in the middle portion. And one more thing, why is it that there are video that can be transcoded. If i convert video from mini dv or program I recorded from my pvr, the same tape or prog, then when i hit start burn, there will be error with some file and cannot be transcoded.

The clue I see is the burning 1.5 hours. That means Nero is re-encoding the video, and that may be where the problem starts. You are apparently converting 640 x 480 to the SVCD standard of 480 x 480. For SVCD standards, look to the upper left here for 'What is' SVCD. <<<<<<
IMO, Nero doesn't do a very good job of re-encoding. The results you are getting a similar to what I've seen. If the editing isn't done by a good MPEG editor that cuts properly, there are more chances of re-encoding and sync problems. That's why I suggest using an editor like Cuttermaran or Mpeg2Schnitt or the payware MPG-VCR editor. They are all good choices and cut MPEGs correctly to avoid sync problems.
For encoding, maybe TMPGEnc encoder, which can also do basic editing. You can try out the trial version. Or you could try DVD2SVCD to see how it might work for re-encoding. I used it extensively when I still made SVCDs. If it will accept your original video, it does a good job of making compliant SVCDs. I believe it can use some freeware encoders.
After you have edited and encoded the video to compliant SVCD format, then you can use Nero to burn it and it shouldn't have to re-encode, and the burning should take minutes, not hours. -
Some suggestions.
1) Record in the correct SVCD resolution, which is 480x480 for NTSC. Recording at a higher resolution and then having Nero convert it for you is a very bad idea.
2) Be sure that your video bit rate is set for a maximum of less than 2600 Kbps and your total audio+video bitrate must be 2723 Kbps or less. If you use, say, 224 for the audio, try using a video bit rate of 2400. I have seen SVCDs go out of sync if the video bit rate goes too much over 2600. -
to jman98, i dont hav any options to choose from sa nero, when i chose svcd, the only options there is standard play which is 2330kbps n hi quality which is 2500kbps, i only use this too, others are of vcd quality with lower kbps. i'l try what you hav suggested to change my setting in my winfast tv tuner n capture, to 480 x 480. n d video qty will be 600 n d target data rate is 2400kbps. but if i am going to burn it to dvd, should i choose dvd option which has a capture setting of 720 x 480, here d video qty is 600 n target data rate is 6000. I noticed that my setting before is -CApture format, MPEG 2 OPTIMAL QTY 640X 480, then video qty is 600 n target is 6000, do u think dats d problem? One more thing there is a video codec option, i chose mpeg 2 codec before, other choices are WINDOWS MEDIA VIDEO COMPRESSION; DV VIDEO ENCODER; INDEO VIDEO 5.10 COMP. FILTER; INDEO VIDEO 5.11; MJPEG COMPRESSOR; CINEPAK CODEC; INTEL 4:2:0 VIDEO, ETC. is there any effect on which one to choose. I noticed if i choose DV Video encoder, video qty n target data rate will be depressed. how about the master stream, whats this? which is better option, audio, video or none, before i chose audio. then audio codec, MPEG 1 AUDIO LAYER II (no other choice) AUDIO BITRATE IS 224 ( NO OTHER CHOICE) Thanks for your help. all this information n options here are from winfast PVR where I record my videos from TV, VHS, handicam n audio tape decks.

Don't involve Nero in you process, possibly for burning the final SVCD image to disc.
First of all: Capture at the correct SVCD bitrate and resolution (see WHAT IS SVCD top left) to start with, to avoid reencoding. If that's not possible with your hardware/software combo, capture to DV, then reencode to SVCD mpg with a mpeg encoder. Also, I'd stay below 2000 kbps (very conservative, I know!) for video. Some players don't do the full SVCD specs.
Second, once you have a SVCD compatible mpeg2 (that you've played to see if it suffers from sync issues), author as SVCD with VCDEasy. On many systems, VCDEasy can also burn it to disc, but if your system isn't compatible with VCDEasy, just create a SVCD image (cue/bin) and burn that with anything, like burnatonce or Nero.
