Hey. I am in need of some help. I have a DVD which I have ripped to a VIDEO_TS folder (and no it is not a commercial DVD). The problem is that the DVD is somehow burnt in the wrong Aspect Ratio - 4:3. All characters are thin and rediculuos and it is really annoying to watch. So I ripped it to try and fix it somehow...

So... What I need is a method to stretch the picture out to widescreen again. I have so far analyzed the .ifo files with IfoEdit.... and changed the AR to 16:9 in all .ifo files. This seems to work perfectly when I run the files in PowerDVD on my PC (yes, even when keeping the Aspect Ratio Setting). But when I burn it to try it on my stand alone DVD player, the AR is the same as before - rediculous 4:3. So I analyzed the VOBs in VOBEdit and see that the AR-information (4:3) also shows up in the video streams. How to change that - I have no idea! But that is probably why the stand alone player won't comply?! So if anyone can be so kind to maybe tell me how to change the values in VOBEdit I will buy him/her some ice-cream. Or maybe I shouldn't even try this at all?! Do I have to reencode... and if so, any good suggestions?

If anyone has any suggestion on what to do, I will be forever thankful.

there are two places where aspect ratio is flagged. one is the ifo files, the other is the video itself. I don't know of a tool to chnage video once authored, but restream can do it if you demux the video out of the vob files first

    Thx a lot for answering!
I've now used Restream and ended up with three m2v files and one ac3 file. Dumped 2 of the m2v files and rendered new ones as menues in DVD Lab Pro. That was way easier than making multi-vts. Took me a while... but again

You should have been able to use IFOEdit to fix this, but you have to fix it in both places - the IFO and the video, not just the IFO. I was able to use IFOEdit to fix this kind of problem once, but you have to remember to fix it in both places.

DVDPatcher will change the aspect ratio for a VOB or MPEG2 file.
