  1. Hi,

I am looking for some advice on making a video. I have seen and like the
way this video looks. When it talks about a page, the page comes to the
front of the screen and is readable. Well on a TV it is. Seems like a good
format for an educating or a training video.

    The video is at:

    http://web6.streamhoster.com/vinyasi/stream/theft-by-deception/broadband/700K/Theft-by-Deception.asx

Sorry if you are offended by the content, I just haven't seen a video on
another subject that was laid out like this one. If you know of a better
one, I'd love to see it.

I have also seen videos (dvds) that do this with a web page.

My question is what type(s) of software would I need to make this video?
Easily?? Is it animation software? Rendering software?

Is this something that can even be done by a non-artist.

I use Linux now but would be willing to buy either a Mac or Win XP if that
would make it better/easier. Now I do VERY simple cutting/editing videos
for my web page now. Mostly just editing out the static on both ends of
the file and maybe a blooper or two in the middle. At one time I used
Virtualdub on Win98. Now I mostly use Kino on Linux and Flix (Win 98) to
make swf files for the web.

I have some copies of pages that I would like to scan in and have them
become readable when the scene starts. I would also like to have a web
page that would zoom in to become readable. I would like to put together
a couple of educational dvds or maybe even cds.

I posted this to a newsgroup but it seemed like I would get a better response here. There seems to be a ton of knowledge in this forum.

Thank you all for your help.

    Welcome to the forums....

Quick answer on your software needs...
Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects..

There are many 3d apps out there, but i would only recommend them for more specialized features..
Many of the movements on your test clip smack of AE (After Effects)..

Warning, it's a heavy program to learn...
If this video becomes a quest of yours, then i would push you to learn basic Adobe Photoshop first.
The reasoning for this is, much work can be done in Photoshop, and directly imported into AE..Since AE and Photoshop are so intertwined, the move to learn AE isn't as harsh...

    Small steps....

Is this something that can even be done by a non-artist.
For the most part, yes..They seem to be straight lines, boxes, and text..

would be willing to buy either a Mac or Win XP
You'll have to do your own homework on this..
Price, system stability, program availability, user support etc...

You're asking for a lot right now..
One step at a time..Although Web pages, CD's, and DVD's are multimedia formats, unless you're a fast learner, and have some awesome training, it'll be a monstorous task to master everything at once...

Decide what's most important to you, choose the specific format, and attack each format one at a time..

    Good luck!!!

Upon further viewing, it seems that the main movie was made in 3D Studio Max...

On a side note, I'm pretty impressed with the main menu and intro...
