My Terapin TT-1800 Stopped Working

Hi everyone

My Terapin TT-1800 has stopped reading every disc I inserted. CD, DVD (-R, +R, Commercial Movie), even a Laser Lens Cleaning disc by Philips.

Is this time for me to chuck this POS and have it follow its now defunct company?

you could always open it up and see if it uses a standard CD Burner.

Thanks, but what do you mean by "standard CD burner"?

A standard Desktop IDE drive. You will have to look or have someone that knows about computers look to see. Might be worth a try to find a replacement drive. Keeping in mind it could be some other part gone bad.

And I could be wrong here too, but my recollection of the terrapin is that it is a VCD recorder?

I opened it and saw something that resembled a DVD ROM. I loaded several discs and obsserved that the laser lens failed to read them. I believe that the laser diode has become too weak for the lens to read the data encoded on the discs.
