  1. Hi!

Let's say I have an mpeg2 file about 4G (from a capture)and I want to cut-trim the last 2 mins. Is there a programm that can do this without copying the hole file from the begging? Just deleting the end. Video redo copies the hole file from the beggining.

    Thanks!

Pretty much all of them will write a new file, minus the bits you trimmed. It's just the way they work.

  3. The only one I know of which appears to do this is the "Trim" function in Sonic MyDVD. I am judging this purely by the time it takes, if it does rewrite it is doing it faster than any other prog I have used. Also works if the file contains AC3 sound.

Bear in mind, they are not re-encoding, simply making a new copy with the changes. When you trim with Sonic MyDVD, do you have to write a DVD structure to the disc to get the changes ? If so, it is acting just like TDA, DLP or many others. You still get a second output - be it mpeg file or DVD structure.

  5. ok, here it goes
you need pvastrumento, you can download it on this site.
demux your mpeg stream, dont forget to uncheck cutamaran and check index file for mpegschnitt.
after that you're left with a videostream mpv
    and an audiostreat mpa
and a couple of index files
then download MPEGSCHNITT which is also avaiable on this site.
load the mpv file in this prog, it will automaticly find the mpa file
you can cut and or trim what you want.
let it run when you done with editing, give it a name and save your selection. again you will have a mpv and a mpa file
final step, muxing the file together you can use IMAGO MPEGMUXER (again avaiable on this site)
All three progs are freeware and excelent and you dont end up with a stream that is out of sync
The whole operation wont take no longer than 15 mnts.
    Happy editing

And that is easier than videoredo because . . . . ? And it still creates another file, which is what the OP is trying to avoid.

Why would you, you can always delete the original when you're done,
supose something goes wrong you'll end up with nothing.
I gues that's also a way to solve the problem

  9. To use the changes, yes, you must write the DVD. It does not output a changed MPG file. But you can trim a few minutes off the beginning or end, it definitely reduces the final output size and does not merely make a chapter.

It will also trim an IVTC'd file with pulldown and AC3, with no audio synch problems, and it was free. (Came with my drive).

Very fast, less than a minute for edit. No demux/remux horseshit.

Actually it creates another file(s) 3 times- new files when you demux, new files when you save and a 3rd new file when you remux.

  11. Bobk you are right. It creates 3 files, and take 20min! Better to do it with video redo! But it is a pity to wait 15 min for just cutting 5-10 MB...
    Anyway, thanks for the answers!
