  1. Hello guys,

Could you please tell me how fast is TMPGEnc Xpress 3.0 working on your pentium 4 machine? Let's say we're using DEFAULT encoder settings to create DVD NTSC file from DV avi file. Could you please try to input like 5 -10 minutes DV video and see how fast it will encode? Or at least tell what is the predicted time (without launching real encoding job).

My system is Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, Abit IC7 motherboard, Corsair PC3500 DDR ram 1G, Western Digital 320Gb PATA drive. Here are my real results:

-ENCODER settings: Default for DVD NTSC and QUALITY output setting (2 pass VBR)

-INPUT: test.avi file with 5:00 minutes video length (at my kid's party)
    -PREDICTION: 14 minutes
-REAL RESULTS: 14 minutes 32 seconds

So basically we're talking about 1:3 ratio. Meaning that 5 minutes AVI will be encoded for 15 minutes. What results do you get in your setup? I'm just trying to see if this time is considered to be "normal" or is it abnormal?

  2. A few days ago, I ran a similar test with a Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz with Xpress. I re-encoded a 11 minute mpeg clip using color correction. The total time was about 46 minutes. 23 minutes to analyze and 23 minutes to encode. A 1:4 ratio. Your times seem good.

O.K. thanks trhouse. Does anybody else have any results to post? Please think about it as some sort of a pole: once we have data collected, everyone can easily figure out if theirs PC's are up to speed

Just for reference: CCE has a 2:1 ratio on my P4/3.0GHz system: 6 times faster than TMPgenc.

  5. Not sure why but on this thread, CCE did not do nearly as well as 2:1. The computer is a 2.4 GHz which explains part of it.
