Well I gave up on dvd2avi. Although I did get it working again on my older system, it won't work at all on my new system. So, I switched to Virtualdub-mpeg2 to frameserve into TMPGenc. But now I have questions concerning two issues: .vdr files and "unlinked" VOB files.
First is the output from TMPGenc going to be the elementary streams I desire? So far it is outputting an m2v file and another vdr file, but no audio file that I can see.
Second: the film I'm editing and re-encoding consists of 4 vob files. But virtual dub is not linking them together. So I am encoding one at a time. I assume they will be 4 seperate mpg files, (hopefully with 4 seperate audio files). What is the best way to link these back together? Using the tools in TMPGenc or have them run sequentially in the authoring program? Or does VirtualDub provide another solution yet?

Well, if you're talking about doing that in VirtualDub, the "Append AVI" option is not available. Probably because it has loaded a VOB. But I don't see an option to append another VOB.
If you're talking about TMPGenc I'll have to wait until the first VOB is encoded.
Any ideas about the audio? -
Try virtualdubmod instead of virtualdub-MPEG2 maybe ?
You could come into issues with TMPGEnc if your audio is AC3 and you don't have the AC3 plugin.
What exactly are you trying to do ?If in doubt, Google it.
