i have recently encoded a couple of avi files (using nero vision)
that are 23.976 fps.
would you expect to notice a very slight "pausing" when there isnt much activity on screen?
im guessing that approx 1 frame per second needs to be used twice to make up 25 fps? or is it the method of encoding causing this?
thanx for any advice.

PAL just speeds 24fps up 4% to play at 25fps. Audio goes slightly "Donald Duck" unless pitch converted.

It depends how it is converted. Some converters add extra frames to bring the frame rate up, which does lead to jerkiness. As you haven't put a location in your profile, I have no idea where you are from, however most PAL players can play back NTSC material. I never convert to PAL. I encode at 23.976 with 2:3 pulldown and playback as NTSC. This avoids all the inherent conversion issues.

so the juttery image im seeing is caused by the encoding then?
its only slightly noticable, maybe im being too picky.
i will try some other software to see what happens.
cheers

sorry for the lack of info.
im uk based so use PAL.
i guess nero 7 uses the add frame process as theres a definite "pause" in playback,i was one of the many who's vegas stopped loading avi files after a re format,so i started using nero as simpler method of converting and authoring.
slightly off topic now,but ive downloaded the trial of vegas 6.0d
which has reported the fixing of allowing mp3 audio, well im afraid my avi files still have "cannot determine stream..." on both video and audio.
i can sort the video with the fourcc changer but the audio isnt recognised.
im know trialing tmpgenc.

You're better off encoding it as NTSC, as I understand most DVD players in PAL land will play it back and convert it on the fly no problem. Try it.

thank you,i used nero 7 as before but authered as NTSC,no jitter on playback, strange that PAL is closer to the 23.976 fps but caused the worst playback?
cheers

loading the 23,967 avi in virtualdubmod
stream/streamlist and when the source mp3 is,
full processing (right click) and no compression (right click on the stream in streamlist) en save wave
then you click on disable in the steamlist box en return to the main box of vdm
video/direkt stream copy
video/framerate /change framerate to 25
file/save as
now you have an avi without noise
now ,the wave you change as pal with belight
(or even with besweetgui)
then you mux those files
when your source ac3 audio is,you must demux in vdm (streamlist) an save the framerate of your ac3 file with ac3 machine
