When I play any mpg's or avi's on my pc using win media player or div x, every few minutes the playback speeds up for a split second as if fast forward was pressed. It only speeds forward a few seconds but is very annoying. anyone know what would be causing this?

If you had a very slow computer, I could understand this, but from your computer specs., you should have no problems. Have you tried a different software player? It sounds like some part of the system isn't keeping up with the data flow.
So all videos, played from hard drive or DVD disc do the same? And on any and all players?
Check your video card settings. Kind of a long shot, but I can't think of much else at the moment. I'm assuming the rest of the computer functions properly? -
try play with vlc media player also. it has builtin codecs.
check also if you have some other software that runs in the background...like some norton crapware.
