They should work. Everything I used on Windows XP Pro I've found a way to install and run on Windows x64, except for my old DOS games (Wolfenstein, Doom, etc) and Acrobat Pro 7 (just the printer).
As a heads up, when installing 32bit apps, our Microsoft rep at work said it's best to install win32 apps to c:\progra~2\[app directory] instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\[app directory]. Some of the software packages don't like the (x86) in the path.
Most companies have an update they can send to you for x64 if you hasle them enough, or search hard enough on the Internet.

i am curious...didnt think of the (x86) being a problem do you run any apps that convert .vob to divx on win xp pro 64 i would like to use it myself but not for sure if its worth the time for install if i have to reformat and go back to 32 bit windows....i use avi.net and staxrip and AGK do you have naythoughts on these apps.thank you

No. I don't do much video work at work, I have those installed to support our AV guys. I can ask them tomorrow, but we don't use DivX, mostly we perform conversion/restoration work of films from the 20s through 70s or new training, equipment in use in the field, etc for the "new" stuff. I have run DivX2DVD without a problem, so I'm guessing going the other way shouldn't be an issue.
I don't use the apps you mentioned, but I looked at Staxrip, and you will need the .Net framework 2.0, which only became available as a full release for x64 in the last month or so. As a side note, the beta did work fine for an AutoCAD install I had to do for someone with x64.
Unfortunately, at work our budget allows us to buy the higher end stuff (mostly so we get the same or a bigger budget the next year, a quirk of how US Gov't budgets work), and we begotiate with the vendors the site license to allow use to use the apps on our home machines for "work at home", which probably means for most of the AV team side work. Most of the freeware I use is DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, etc.
The best advice I can offer you is to try the install, and work your way through error messages as you install them. Most of the 32bit apps will work, they just need a component that is either not installed by defult or is a separate download from Microsoft. Most likely someone has had the same issue you may be facing.
