  1. Hello,

I downloaded the Limewire software only to
find that i can't "download" the songs. i can request
them (meaning i'm hooked up to the network), i just
can't pull them onto my hard drive.

as you may or may not know, its impossible to get help
from the gnutella people. i looked under their FAQs
and figured maybe my firewall is too high. so i
followed their instructions about allowing gnutella
in, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your
    help!

I'll assume you're downloading public domain music.

When you add the file you want to the download list, what happens ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

This sounds like an active firewall issue but without further info about your firewall and any hardware I can't make a final determination. Like Jimmy said, when you click to download a file from the search screen does the file appear in the download section at the bottom of this same window? What is it's status (ie. connecting, waiting for hosts, downloading, etc.)?

Slightly off topic -- I generally use Shareaza, which connects to Gnutella, Gnutella2, and eDonkey networks simultaneously (it also acts as BitTorrent client, but that's another topci). Shareaza has a nice "network" page where it SHOWS you the traffic it's sending to each network, and which sections it's downloading. Great for troubleshooting.

  6. Firewall as far as I know. I'm going to check the other stuff you suggested tonight and I'll let you know. Thank you again for your tremendous help. This forum is such a resource for newbies like me

    Gratefully,

Downloaded songs or other on Limewire automatically go to your shared folder which is part of the Limewire set-up when you installed it. It will not be on a seperate folder on your HD unless you created one.
Knowledge is a good thing don`t abuse it
