I hope this is the right forum,

I made movie with digital camera CANON SD300 on show I was waiting long time.Problem is that it was so noise that it recorded just noise when band played.[I know this camera is not made mainly for movies.]

This camera mades movies as VIDEO=AVI and AUDIO=THM.

So is there any software [free as possible] that can reduce noise from audio in THM format?

    Thanx in advance .)

THM is generally an extension for a 'thumbnail' photo image.

But for a freeware audio editor, check Audacity. It accepts PCM or MP3 audio. Has lots of filtering options.

BTW, if you really have K-lite codec pack installed, you would be one of the very few that haven't had codec problems because of it.

oooopps... u r right,I don't need THM to play AVI.Long ago I couldn't play those AVIs without THM.It is probably codecs.
Well I don't have a problems with K-lite.Wich else is better?

Thanx for replying,I'm gonna try that Audacity.

    Since you asked.....

In general codec packs contain some old codecs, some corrupted codecs, some codecs that disable or damage your existing codecs or cause problems with the OS. If you need a individual codec, a codec pack is sometimes a good source. However the whole codec pack is usually the problem.

If you have a video file you can't decode, then use a program like Gspot to see which codec you need and download only that one. There are many, many threads about problems with using codec packs on this site. For that reason codec packs are not recommended. The only 'codec pack' I would recommend is ffdshow as it has proven performance and little chance of conflicts.

You can DL a program like DXMan and it will show you what you have installed in your computer. If you have duplicates or corrupted codecs, it should show that also.

But back on topic; Audacity works fairly well with noise reduction. Goldwave is a little better, but it's not freeware, another is Adobe Audition, which is fairly pricey.

In general noise reduction will take something away from your audio. You want to use it sparingly. If you have a steady noise, you can take a sample of it and use it to remove the noise. Less is better in most cases.

If you apply too much filter, not much audio is left over. However, I have managed to clean up some audio and make it a lot better. Look into the high pass and low pass filters. Good for static and rumble. It's a great freeware editor. Send a note to the authors if you like it.

    thanx redwudz,

I've tried gspot and it said this file has 2 video codecs installed and do not need audio codec, which is PCM audio.

    I've tried it's Audacity 1.2.4,but couldn't do File>open.Because it is Uncompressed,so I did Project>Import RAW data [as recomended].

Problem is that when I playd that it wasn't same sound,it was just noise [which that movie is not totaly,it has some few spots from begining where is no noise, because this band don't play yet]

    I'm confused.

I'll try to add header from gspot:

I've tried Goldwave, noise filter [default],saved it as .mp3 and played.Sound was more noise-free,but also like they were playing underwater. Not good.

Is there any other way? Should I convert its AVI in some other format so I can try to do more with sound?Split it somehow in 2 formats,AUDIO and VIDEO?

Somebody pls help me or I die on Valentine's day.

I don't use Goldwave, but as I mentioned before, you have to use filtering sparingly or you will remove more than noise. Play around with some of the filter settings, in particular the hi pass and lo pass filters. You have to find a happy medium that reduces your noise and doesn't remove too much quality. Sometimes it's a 'no win' situation.

    yep redwudz,

my musick teacher told me that there's no way to remove it,which I believe.I've tried noise removing-default [as I've read on some post] on Goldwave with slow noise removing, and first try was not that noise anymore, but also sounded like playing underwater

I guess next time I should NOT use digital camera on show like this.Problem is that there was not alowed any else then small cameras.NO making video alowed.

Try go through the Crystality filter in FFDSHow, seems to help a bit with that muddy water sound.

"Found this googling on audio thm if it helps...

Sorry -- was referring to thm part only, that it seemed from *very quick read* to be separate from avi with audio.

"Problem is that there was not alowed any else then small cameras.NO making video alowed."

Needless to say be careful -- could mean jail time nowdays if you get caught recording in any way.

yea I didn't know that .thm was NOT part of .AVI.So need somehow to take noise from AVI down.

And about that videotaping and jail,I don't think that its band was worried at all
