I am wnating to take all my homee movies of the kids, pets, family get-to-gethers, and everything else a camcorder captures and make DVDs out of them.
I would like to reauthor them and put birthdays in order with chapters. Shool plays by date with chapters, and so on.
I have all of my movies recorded to DVD using a VCR/DVD recorder and my HI8 camcorder.
Which forum should I go to to answer my questions on how to rip from these DVD and reauthor them?
Thanks for the help
Bill

I'd say the newbie forum is a comfortable fit for the moment. As you progress and hit more specific problems, you can look to more specific forums.
What, if any, editing software do you have ?
Ditto for authoring software ?
Mpeg video (the format your DVDs are in) is not the best format for editing, and some editing software does not like it at all. If you have a DV camera and most of the footage is on mini-DV tape, sometimes it is easier to transfer and edit from there.
On the otherhand, if you do not have any software at the moment, you could look at dedicated mpeg editing software such as VideoRedu Pro or Womble VCR.Read my blog here.

Thanks for the reply.
At the moment I have no software other than WinDVD Creator Platinum 2 which came with my video card (I think it was my video card?). Other than that I am starting out fresh.
I do not have a DV camcorder. That is why I copied over to DVD it the standalone recorder.
What should I look for to start with to get the vids from the DVD format to something I can edit?
And what software do I need to edit with?
Thanks for the help

If most of the editing is going to be simple - straight cuts, simple titles etc. - then look at the mpeg editing software like VideoRedo Pro and Womble VCR. You can find more details by click on the name or looking them up in the tools section. They don' t have all the effects and plugins of something like Premiere Pro, but you probably don't need that in the first instance (and they are a lot cheaper, as well).
Your other option is to look at something like Premiere Elements or Vegas Movie Studio. Both are well featured beginners packages. You may have to convert your video to DV format to get the best out of them, but that con be done on the PC if necessary.Read my blog here.
