  1. This is gonna be obvious to somebody out there but I can't figure it out.

Tried to burn a dvd with dvdfab that was run through dvdfab and then dvdshrink to resize it. Now dvdfab doesn’t recognize the file so I can burn it. I always used dvd fab > dvd shrink > roxio easy media creator 7 which worked good but there was a conflict with the newly installed Zone Alarm which required me to uninstall roxio. Nero won’t recognize my nec dvd burner either. Nero will only backup an image file to the HD.
Dvds’ play fine and I can bu a dvd to the hd fine I just can’t burn anything. Is the file format unrecognizable to these progs and seen only by roxio? Is it a ZAlarm or virus issue.
    Thanks MKS

The problem is likely due to Roxio and Nero being incompatible. This is a well known issue, and I once had the drive damage a disc with Roxio and Nero on same PC. You need to remove one of these, and that should solve the problem although a reinstall of the app you leave on the PC may be needed. You could try turning off Zonealarm to determine if that's a problem if the problem persists after removing one of the apps.

Sorry, I over looked your statement that you had removed Roxio, but did you also remove Roxio's DirectCD packet writing software? You may also need to remove all Roxio registry entries for which Regedit is a good tool that is easily found by Google search if you want to use Nero. Another possibility is some burners aren't recognized by some software. I had this problem myself with the first CD burner I got which Roxio recognized, but Nero did not. It might be easier to uninstall Nero, reinstall Roxio since that worked, and try to get fix from Zonealarm for firewall issues. I had a Zonealarm issue once that blocked my wireless router until I added the router IP address to trusted sites in Zonealarm firewall. There may be some similar Roxio permission needed in Zonealarm to fix the Roxio conflict.

  4. Installed roxio ezmedia 7.5 after disabling all virus software and all is good. I have never been able to burn a disc with nero so it's no loss but I was thinking that dvdfab decrpt was able to burn a disk too. Either way roxio is working so I'll reactivate the anti-vir progs one at a time to assure which may be the issue.
    Thanks, MKS
