    I have a 2 hour movie that I would like to put onto one single layer dvd disk.
    Is there a piece of software that will allow me to do it.

    Thanks Joe

    What format is it presently in?

    You would normally encode it to MPEG-2 format, then author it to DVD.

    If you look to the upper left for 'What is' DVD you will see the specifcations of the DVD format.

    There are many things you can do to fit your movie on a single layer DVD. Here are some suggestions:
    -You can render you movie (is it AVI uncompressed?) to MPEG2 using low (but acceptable) bitrates; a bitrate calculator would be great to help you do that;
    -You can use DVD Shrink to help you fit your movie to a single layer disc (much compression may generate something like macroblocks). Usually, the compression should be at 20%, that means, 80% of the original size. Any value grater than this one, may generate side effects anyone can see on a big screen (plasma, LCD or on 29" 4:3 TVs);
    -IF...IF you're authoring for yourself and IF your DVD player is compatible with Divx and Xvid, you could try to render your movie to Xvid (which is free) and burn a data DVD (no menus will be available - it'll be a "Movie DVD" - like a VHS tape. I'm sure this way your movie will fit easily on a single layer disc.

  4. Probably.

    That would depend on the file type of the movie, quality desired, subtitles included, source of the movie, playback device available, compatibility desired, and a whole bunch of other questions which can only be guessed at with the extremely minimal information currently available.

    I have a truck. Will it haul 2 tons of gravel safely?

    Try DivxToDVD. There is a freeware version available if you follow the link. It should fit. If not, get back to us.

  7. and don't expect the output video to be very high quality......just looking at the input file specs makes me near want to choke................im not sure if dvd is a good format to try and convert to...you may be better off with svcd............or maybe even vcd.
