  1. I've got a question about chapters. Right now, I am copying old VHS tapes onto DVDs. Each tape might have 5-9 different sessions. If, while copying from tape to DVD I press the chapter button, what does this do? Does it create skip areas where you can jump from chapter to chapter?
    Thanks

I would expect this to be noted in your manual. But it should work as you have outlined by placing chapter markers in the recording, allowing you to skip from chapter to chapter.

You could always try it out to verify by using a RW disc.

  3. Check page 26, column 1 of your user guide. If you misplaced it, check Panosonic's support pages for a download.

You are very limited with DVD-R/+Rs and DVD-RW(V)s, as
programs are recorded as a single title consisting of one chapter. ... Titles are divides into about 5 minute chapters after finalizing.
Since a single recording is stored as one title, there are no ways to make it into chapters on the DMR-ES20.

If you are using DVD-RAM, you can divide a title into multiple chapters. However, it will be expensive to archive/distribute. All DVD drives do not read DVD-RAM disks.

As Krispy Kritter says above, try it out on a DVD-RW.

You can take your recording to your PC and use an authoring tool (https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=2#2) to edit it, break it up into chapters and burn it to DVD-whatever.
