if anyone is having problems with the fog follow these steps

    1. use dvd fab dycrpter to load it to ur harddrive

    2. use dvd shrink ,and select files and shrink the file u just loaded with dvd fab , but u have to choose the reauth and select main movie only .( it will tell that the movie is to large to do want to continue select yes )

    3. now u have a movie that is too large on ur hardrive too burn but u have shrunk it down to just the main movie , so u shrink it again with dvd shrink and it will now fit on a disc

Theres no need to use Shrink twice, you can set the required compression first time round.

not with this dvd , u do need to use it twice , this dvd locks the precent of compression @99% and it not compressed yet , this is why u have to follow the steps in order to compress it and get pass the protection to get it on to a dvd . this is the 1st time i have ever seen a dvd with this lock compression built into it ... it has to be a new protection in the dvd ,,, YOU do have to COMPRESS TWICE

and note 1st compression has to be re authed with only the main movie for it to work ......!!!!!!!

    Good Luck

The Fog? A remake of a horror movie? A dark film? compression? No thanks i'd rather see the film instead compressing it.

But it has ... Tom Welling ... from Smallville in it ...

I'm pretty sure AnyDVD, CloneDVD2, and DVD-RB ... will have no problem making a decent backup.

Once ripped I'd imagine Nero 7 would have no problem burning a copy.

  8. Columbia Pictures release, so it's an ARccOS disc. Are you saying the compression slider in DVDShrink is inoperable? That means the file structure of the DVDFabDecrypter output is not fully compliant.

DVDShrink is kinda picky about that, for an explanation, look here:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1448399#1448399

The usual fix until recently was to run the Fab output through VobBlanker, then titles started coming out it couldn't process correctly, multiangle stuff, IIRC. FixVTS was made specifically to correct and make compliant the decrypted files from DVDFabDecrypter, so that DVDShrink could deal with them. That would be something to try.

This is an annoyance, no more. The vast majority of available discs can be backed up with DVDShrink alone. ARccOS discs, now and in the future can be done with DVDDecrypter using a PSL list. Or get the PSL plugin for PgcEdit and automate the process, it's easy. IMHO, this is a better method than relying on the next release of DVDFabDecrypter to tackle a problematic disc. That points to a fundamental weakness in how DVDFabDecrypter does the job, since it requires updating for specific titles. For anyone that remembers, the last couple versions of DVDDecrypter had PSL files included. C'mon, you can do it yourself, and correctly.

    Good luck.

  9. Here's a guide for using PgcEdit and the PSL2 plugin:

Other guides on that page as well. Good luck.

Sorry ladylus but I just did The Fog with DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter and had no probs with either one. In shrink I did movie only and it took about 4 minutes to backup did not see any compression lock (was about 3.9GB). Were you just doing movie only? Burned with Nero 6618 and works and looks great on Apex AD1500 and Philips DVP 642

The original movie (not the remake) is out on DVD and it is like $9.99

I suggest you buy that and stop worrying about backing up that crude of a remake.

I just backed up the fog remake using DVD Fab Decrypter and DVD Shrink. I would normally not use shrink but since compression was only 94% I decided to use a SL Disc instead of DL. I can always watch the extra features on the original disc. Nothing special about this one. It does contain ARccOS, but not something new. If you aren't using an up-to-date FAB Decrypter or you are just using DVD Decrypter you may experience problems since out of date software(especially decrypter) is not recommended for ARccOS protection.

have any of you guys watched the Fog before trying to make a back up? If you did, you wouldn't be too concerned about preserving the original. It really was a bad movie, I predict those backups as well as the originals, will become frisbees for the little ones soon enough.

  15. I haven't viewed the burn yet, but I did mine with DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter as well without an apparent problem. Of course, I have my purchased AnyDVD running in the background as well.

It actually isn't bad for a remake. Certainly better than the Amityville Trash.

Your right ladylus shrink was NOT WORKING within 10 seconds of putting the disc in my drive!!!! Did not use AnyDVD, DVD43 or any other proxy driver for that matter (never have and have backed up about 400 discs, probably more if I really wanted to count, and yes they all work) and when I reauthored (only ONCE) to get just the main movie and get rid of subs and extra sound it DID NOT SAY 100% COMPRESSION and it also DID NOT TAKE 6 MIN 16 SEC to rip 3920 MB to my video_ts folder, then it also DID NOT TAKE NERO VER 6618 ABOUT SIX AND A HALF MINUTES TO BURN TO A VERBATIM DVD-R.I also am NOT WATCHING THE BURNED DVD RIGHT NOW AS I WRITE THIS.
Please do not tell me that I can't do something WHEN I HAVE ALREADY DONE IT!!!! Just because you may not know how to do it does not mean other people are the same. Let me put it this way "If I tell you Santa Claus is coming, you better hang your stocking cuz that sumbitch is comin!!!!!"

Latest version of DVD Fab Decrypter and one pass in shrink was all it took me to re-author just the movie to a Ty DVD-R.

I've come across this problem with STEALTH also. Had to use DVDShrink twice - the first time it was locked at 99% as the previous poster says so I ran it as is. The second time Shrink acted normally. This is after being ripped by the current version of DVDFab Decrypter.

Hopefully DVDFab will have an updated version that will take care of this. A minor annoyance, but still annoying.

Only compressed it once here. No need to do that twice. If once isn't enough twice will surely make a mockery of the film on a large screen.

The Canadian version, movie only, doesn't need compression, used Shrink to reauthor successfully.

The american version needs only slight compression. The main movie was 4688 in size(reported in shrink as 4702). I shrunk it once which was roughly 94-95% and burned with Nero 7.

I had no problem with The Fog, however Flight Plan had the ripguard protection on it which always presents a problem when using DVD Shrink, so for now, I use DVD2One v2 to handle these if I want the entire disc.

  24. Regarding Flightplan...I used DVD decrypter and when trying to use Shrink3.2, it gave an error. However, I used Nero Recode without any problems for "movie only".

That did not work for me. Had to create a full sized .iso of the filem, then shrink again.

  26. AnyDVD on, the DVD Shrink. Not a problem whatsoever.

My suggestion to those still having issues with this easily backed up movie is to use a dual layer disc and your favorite burning software. Some of the extra features of this DVD are worth preserving.

FWIW, Latest version of DVD Fab Decrypter and one pass with DVD Shrink worked fine for movie only here.

Then you aren't re-authoring and doing a movie only backup, which works fine on the Canadian version of The Fog. Failing that there's ROF's DL solution...
