Hi, my G5 has the SONY DVD RW DW-U21A DVD burner in it. There has been some debate as to whether or not I can use 16x DVD media in it or not. Not to burn at 16x obviously, just to burn period.
You can use faster than 24x CD-Rs in the drive, so it would seem that you could do this with DVDs, but I dunno.
It is getting harder to find 8x media.
Also, not all 8x Media works with the drive. I have had issues with Fuji and HP
Any suggestions?

DVD technology is still in its infancy and growing fast,
but you cannot use a disc with higher X-ness than your
drive can handle.
There *might* be a firmware upgrade at rpc1.org. Look
at the "download firmware" tab.
And yup, not all brands (or even types within brand) work.
