I apologise if this has already been covered in the forums, but I cannot seem to find it.

I have some videos which I am going to transfer to DVD with chapters (so I can select whcih film/program I want to watch).

How do I add background music to the chapter section?
What software is best/easiest to use for this?

Many thanks for your feedback and help

What software are you using to author your DVDs (i.e. create the chapter menu ?)

Some software makes it very easy - DVD Workshop 2, DVD Lab Pro, DVD Architect

Some make it harder than it needs to be - TDA

Some don't do it at all - most one-click-wonders

So what software do you have, what is your budget for new software if required ?

This will be my first dvd that I will have authored, so I am pretty new to this stuff.
I currently have nero (latest version). I do not have a budget limit, so just looking for the best/easiest software to accomplish this

It is rare that the best is also the easiest.

Personally, I use DVD Lab Pro. DVD Workshop 2 looks to be the business as well. I have DVD Architect, but I am not a great fan of it's workflow and restrictive feel.

TDA is a great beginners package, but I believe to add background music you have to create what is effectively a motion menu. Maybe a TDA expert can confirm or correct this statement ?

Confirmed. Of course this can be music with a still image, giving the effect of "just" audio being added, but you're right - you have to jump through a few hoops to accomplish something which other softwares make look ridiculously easy.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Is this resolved by TDA Pro ?

    Isn't that a universal truth?

Universal? Yeah, but most people don't realize it. In something like DVDWS2, you drop in an image, you drop in audio, and let the authorware take care of the rest.
