    Hi Folks

First post.. apologies if in the wrong place.. please re-point me, etc..

OK.. Have JUST managed my first DVD authoring experience.. It's taken a week of downloads, rubbish/limited functionality software, bloatware and crashed PC's.... My main thing, at the moment is taking TV recording created in my standalone DVD Recorder (Cyberhome..), editing out adverts and burning several episodes to a DVD. This site has been invaluable, so thanks to all the contributors.

    I've used:-

DVD DeCrypter - To move my VOB's from original recording onto my hard disk into a SINGLE VOB file

VideoRedDoPlus (Trial) - To edit out the ads and break up multi-episode recordings into single episodes

Ulead Movie Factory 4 (Trial) - to complile and cerate DVD-Video, titles, chapters.

Nero StartSmart 6.0 (Free with LG GSA-4166B) Drive to burn the Lightscribe labels and create copies of my 'creations'.

Before I run off and register/pay for my trial versions I'm trying to find a neater/integrated package.. Nero 7 Premium's advertising would have you believe it's the answer to all your woes. Is it? In particular, the job being done currently by DVD DeCrypter, and especially reading and making sense of the VOB's in my original recordings seems key. i.e. Most other stuff seems incapable of manipulating (editing) VOB's. Does Nero 7 Premium do this stuff, or would I be better putting my money elsewhere?

For the record, while I achieved my authoring/creating goal with the Ulead stuff, I think the user interface is at best messy. If that's the best that's available, I'll use it, but rather not..

Sorry for the long rambling missive, but felt it would help to explain how far I've got before my first post here..

    Regards
    Peter

There are many utilities available to do what you are describing, look in the tools section and try a few different ones till you find something that suits you. On the other hand Nero is deffinatly NOT the tool of choice of the majority of users on this site, it can often make a complete mess of your project and should be avoided.

Nero was a good burning program now bogged down in trying to be all things to all men (and/or women). It has so many parts, all of them average in function, that it has lost sight of the one thing it used to do very well - burn discs.

If you are happy with what you have achieved with the tools listed i your post, stick with them. You could even ditch Nero and burn with DVd Decrypter (first creating an ISO with ImgTools Classic).

IF quality is the primary concern (and for my money, it should be - or why bother ?) then choosing the best tool for each task is always the best way to go.
