I'm using ffmpegX to convert my JVC Everio video files (.mod) for use with Final Cut pro on Apple Mac computer.
I followed the instructions I read, I convert to .MOV mpeg-4 For each file, I need to reset the video size to DVD to obtain 720 x 576 images. (that's probably a bug of ffmpegX that he resets size to 640 x 352 each time I drop a new source file).
ffmpegX help explains that to edit in Final Cut Pro without need of rendering, encode with "use only I-frames" and set the mpeg-4 codec in the timeline settings of Final Cut. I did both but I still need to render in Final Cut Pro to read my sequence. Any one succeded ?

Hey I've got a similar problem, and was wondering if you'd found any solution. I'm also trying to get a format for final cut pro editing. I've tried the DV MOV and M2V formats. The DV codec doesn't work very well for line-art. And I've had problems with both the MPEG2 and MOV files. Somehow the video paramaters I set are being over-ridden. The incoming file (an MP4) is 720x480, and I manually set the encode to be the same (720x480), but the file that results is somehow a 640x480 (with MPEG2) or 853x480 (MOV).

    What am I doing wrong?

If your using ffmpegX to convert files from an everio JVC camera, there are no setting that result in no loss in quality. Best I found is to use mpegstreamclip and vonvert to DV. No need to change anything into the settings, the result is prefect. Only the sound file will need to be rendered for FCP but it is done very rapidly by FCP. You can find the software on:
