I picked up some Sony DVD's on sale at Staples this week, w/o 1/15/06, for 50 for $15. Here are the media codes:

    DVD+R - YUDEN000T02 - Made in Japan

    DVD-R - SONY08D1 - Made in Taiwan.

    FYI.

DVD-R made in Japan are the same MID as the Taiwan discs. If the DVD+R are made in Taiwan, the MID is SONYD11.

So are the SONY ID discs made in Taiwan any good?

I went back to Staples tonight and picked up another pack of the DVD+R, this time they were 16x instead of 8x, and they were made in Taiwan instead of Japan. I haven't opened them yet to check the code.

I think Daxon makes the Sony DVD media in Taiwan.

I've never come across Daxon DVD-Rs myself, but LordSmurf's site has them in the 4th Class section. Did they suddenly get good or is it a situation like Verbatim where the production is outsourced but they provide the materials/specs?

Thanks. It really shows you where the quality differences lay.
