This is quite normal. I'm running a 1.3 ghz Athlon and it takes 4 hours to do a 2 hour movie. That is, if the VOB files have been ripped and the the project file has been created with DVD2AVI already. Tack those steps on and it takes another hour and a half (I use the ultra high extraction setting in DVD2AVI for the audio. Takes about 5 minutes to extract the mp2 if I use the normal setting for audio but it sounds tinny then.)

out of all the processes, the longest is encoding, and the only thing that affects it (assuming you got decent hdd and ram) is CPU power. i guess i can't just say CPU speed cuz i believe an Athlon XP +1800 rated at 1.5 ghtz can horsewhip the Intel Pentium IV 2.0 ghtz. but anywayz, encoding time is all about the CPU. Amount of memory and speed of hdd has very, very little affect if any.

What is taking you all so long to convert a movie ?? The only thing that takes me the longest is when i rip to the HD. Overall it takes me less than 1 hour to rip to HD, then it takes 15 -30 minutes to split the 2 files. Then when i join them with TMPGenc it takes 45 minutes for each half of the movie. So overall about 3 hours per movie. The best way i found to do it all is rip like 3 - 5 movies to the HD, then split the files with DVD2AVI and then when i am about to go to work i will batch them all up in TMPGenc and go to work. When i get home , i find out that all my movies are done converting. Then i delete all unwanted files. I am still looking to get my rips done a little faster though.

Xtreme, heh...it depends on the CPU. my athlon 1.2 ghtz completely kicks the crap outta my athlon 650 mhtz...so if u have like an athlon XP 1800+, then it's gonna encode really fast.
