For the past year I have been using Nero's wizard to build DVD-video's with menus, buttons etc. (comes in very handy). Every DVD-video created with Nero played fine on my standalone DVD player.
Recently I bought a standalone Pioneer DVR 230. When I tried to play a DVD-video on the standalone, it would not play! I managed WASTING several DVD-R's until I found a guide that said: 1) Use WinAvi to burn to DVD-video 2) Use IFO edit and VOB edit for compatibility issues.
Luckily after using this guide my standlaone DVR accepted the DVD and played fine.

My problem is that WinAvi does not create menus and buttons.

I read here about a program called "Ulead DVD Workshop". Does this program guarantee standalone compatibility? I just want a program that will create a DVD-video with a menu and WILL play on a standalone DVR player with no PROBLEMS! :P

One more question: If I use Nero's DVD-video wizard and then burn it with UDF/ISO will it WORK ?

    Thanks!

Try burning to RW for tests, & there are several guides & threads that go through burning for compatibility. Using one authoring prog vs another is not usually the prob., but rather media or method of burning. DL presents another set of challenges you'll also read about in the forums.

NERO tends to be crap for burning DVD discs.

Pioneer DVD players and recorders are known to be "strict" and not like a DVD recordable that was not made "just so".

This was more so in past years than more recently but I bet they are still more "touchy" with how a DVD was burned than most other brands.
