    Hi all,

Recently I downloaded a few videos encoded in avi format. I wanted to encode it to MPEG-1 (VCD) format. After encoding the videos from avi format to MPEG-1 (VCD) format, I burned it to a disc and play it on my VCD player. I was surprised to find there was some 'laggy-ness' (i should say) in the video as before there was no such problems. The Japanese sound (in this case) came out first and then the subtitle that suppose to translate the sound came out right after it. I was like figuring out which subtitle goes with which sound throughout the video instead of enjoying the video like i used to be. Basically, there's some timing problems with the videos between the sounds and subtitles.

I played the avi file and found there's no such problem, so I suspected there some problems during the encoding process but couldn't find what's the reason. I have deleted the avi format videos as I used Nero Burning Rom to burn the disc and there was no problem with it, instead of using Blaze Media Pro. The reason why I used Blaze instead of Nero since Nero do not have any problem is because Nero can't encode in batch mode and I have to keep checking my computer to see if its encoded finish (which took about an hour) and insert the disc and after that repeating the process again. It generally take lesser time if i encoded it to MPEG first and then use nero to burn it to disc.

I have deleted the avi format video since I have successful burned the videos but I still want to know whats the reason, so in any case I encounter the problems again I will know what to do. I will try to recall the information on the avi video files and the converted problematic MPEG-1 (VCD) files.

    AVI format:
    Image - 700+ by 400+ (If I'm not wrong)
    Audio - Bit Rate 128kbps (MPEG Layer-3)
    Video - Frame Rate = 23 frames/second - Data Rate = 118Kbps - Video sample size = 24 bit.

Option choosed for the MPEG-1: (Using Blaze Media Pro V6.1)
    Video Format - Frame Rate = 29.9 - Video Bitrate = 1150
    Audio Format - Channels = Stereo - Audio Bitrate = 80
MPEG version - There's standard and VCD, I choosed VCD.

I tried encoding in standard after that but the problem still persist. I even tried changing the frame rate and video bitrate but it still didn't work. I've downloaded DivX codec and XviD codec and it didn't help. Sorry about that but I'm quite new to encdoing videos, which means I don't know what does Frame rate, Video Bitrate and other stuffs mean.

Added - Previously, I used Blaze Media Pro V6.1 to encode lots of avi format videos to MPEG-1 (VCD) using the same setting as the above and I did not encountered any of such problem. But this time... I wonder why?

Thx for taking the time to read.

*Usually* the problem of A/V desync is caused by VBR MP3 used as sound track. However, since you don't have the AVI any more there's no way to tell.

Pretty sure the "laggy-ness" is due to different source/dest framerates.
