  1. Hello. I'll be starting an audio restoration project some time soon. The source are MP3s (mono 32/40Kbs, 11Khz) of an old radio drama series, Mystery Theater. They are recorded either directly from the radio, or from cassette tape.

I'm learning as I go. I have tried searching around and reading about specific restoration techniques I'd like to do, but I don't know the proper terms so have not had much luck yet finding what I need.

I have Adobe Audition. I have played around with the various filters and effects, but am not sure I am choosing the right one for the job. And there are so many settings -- I'd like to at least start with knowing I am using the correct filter/effect for what I am trying to do.

Some of the things I'd like to do are:

    - Enhance muted speech and bring it out a bit above background audio.
    - Enhance muted background audio.
    - Some of the MP3s sound very flat. I'd like to try and a little depth, life, etc. if these are the proper terms (I thought this was called adding warmth, but maybe not).

I know to expect only small improvements, not a miracle.

Please point out possible starting points in techniques/filters/plugins that specificly deal with the type of enhancements I'd like to do. Methods I can experiment with or read up on. Thanks.
