css encoded dvd

ive been trying to rip a dvd using any dvd and dvd decrypter,thing is the dvd is css encoded,is there a good css decoding tool i could use?

Removing CSS is one of the main reasons for using AnyDVD or DVDDecrypter. That's what they do.

You are using them both AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter remove CSS encryption. If you are having trouble its probably Arccos encryption (on Sony DVDs).

So, you can either update your copy of AnyDVD and run in the background with DVD Decrypter or use DVDFab Decrypter. This is a simialar programme to DVD Decrypter but is still supported and updates (DVD Decrtpter isn't)

If you have problems with DVDFab Decrypter come back with more details, ie the movie you are trying to rip and the error you get.

Yes, Arccos protected/damaged discs can be ripped with DVDFab Decrypter, or AnyDVD and simple drag&drop copying.
Just make sure you have the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter/AnyDVD. They are both constantly updated to keep pace with new/changed protection schemes.

thanks,ive ripped and burnt countless dvd,s before and never had this problem,i realise they all have this encoding but this one seems to have extra protection.

DVD Decrypter hasn't been updated and wont ever be. As for newer protection as other posters mentioned, use Latest versions of DVDFab Decrypter or AnyDVD. You shouldn't have any problems.

Good film. You'll not have any problems backing this up with DVDFab Decrypter. Download the latest version and you should be good to go.

I for the first time checked the option in AnyDVD to tell you exactly what type of protection any particular disc has on it. It will also tell you what it did with it. Last night I backed up Constant Gardener - it had CSS and invalid VOB's, AnyDVD removed them both. Then Red Eye - only CSS and was removed. Oh, and discs were region 1 NTSC. No RCE or Arccos on either one. So just a cool feature you should use on this Kung Fu Hustle just to see what it's actually got.

Thanks, ive now managed to rip the dvd,shrink it and burn it wth no problems.By the way whats an invalid VOB?.

Not entirely 100% sure what an invalid VOB is, but I think it was introduced back in the day of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

It is true that DVD Decrypter is now discontinued, but thanks to the PSL2 plugin, it has now a new life!

I'm aware of the PSL2 plug-in, but to be honest am far too lazy. DVDFab Decrypter does the job in a single step, why make more work for yourself? Should DVDFab Decrypter fail its always there as a reserve tool but for this movie is not necessary.

Right, of course. DVDFab Decrypter is sufficient in some cases.
But honestly, I prefer the universal method. Decrypting with DVDFab and redoing the whole process with the plugin because the first try was not satisfactory requires even more work.

Have you found many movies that can't be ripped with DVDFab Decrpyter? I've yet to find one, but I don't rip on a large scale nor do I buy movies the week they are released so I guess the guess at DVDFab have had time to upgrade the programme.

No, most of the movies are rippable with Fab. However, almost all of the newest ARccOS protected movies are not easily shrinkable with DVD Shrink (and Nero Recode), unless you use the plugin to rip them. If you don't need Shrink, and if you can live with the limitations of Fab (described in the other thread) then Fab is the easiest solution.
However, in some cases, Fab is so slow that I prefer to use the plugin anyway.

The drawback of the plugin is that you must interact with the programs yourself. But since V2, the wizard makes the whole process really easy. And I really like the way it removes the crap in the IFOs and VOBs.

Of course, being the author of PgcEdit, I like to use it to rip, too.

Note that for me too, it's more a theoretical discussion that a practical case. I don't have ANY ARccOS protected DVD! Hopefully, they will continue to protect the commercial US movies only. I don't like this kind of... crap!
As far as I know, the only ARccOS protected DVD I want to have is Madagascar, but I haven't purchased it yet. It was released here in Belgium only a couple days ago.
