  1. I'm using Windows Media Encoder (WME) to broadcast a local TV show to the internet. I'd like to capture the source video as it's being encoded.

I can plainly see how to capture the output from WME, but I don't have a clue as to how to capture the source.

The source is coming into WME from a firewire connection.

What do I need to capture the source video?

    Thanks for any suggestions

What video format in coming in on IEEE-1394?

    - if DV format WinDV (with monitoring), DVIO (without monitoring), Moviemaker or many other.

    - if MPeg2 TS, look at CapDVHS

    - if the IEEE-1394 is a network connection, anything could be coming in.

  3. It's DV from a Canopus ADVC-100. I don't think any of those programs can access the firewire stream while WME is using it for encoding.

Either WME needs to capture the source or there has to be a program that can share the firewire stream with WME

True, but you can use a second computer to cap the DV stream. Just plug the second machine into the front IEEE-1394 port on the ADVC-100.

  5. It's kinda fussy about which program (WME or Capture) starts first , but using both firewire ports on the Canopus seems to be working, at least for a few minutes. More testing is needed, but I'm getting somewhere finally.

Thanks for the suggestion! It never occurred to me to just hook up both Canopus ports to two computers.

Just cycle the button until the rightmost LED. Then both ports will be outputs.
