I'm concerned mainly about ripping and writing protected discs. And this includes all drives today as oh 12-01. I'd appreciare any feedback at all. i can barely find any info on anything SATA.

The drives themselves are identical to IDE drives. The difference is the interface.
The last time I saw a comparison, most of the brand name drives were all very equal.Google is your Friend -
As far as I know there are only two SATA DVD writers. One from Plextor and one from LiteOn. I've heard lots of bad things about the Plextor. Not much about the LiteOn.
