I have a Sony DVD/VCR recorder that I have just purchased. It records on every concievable DVD format (DVD+R/W, DVD-R/W, etc.) Anywhoot, I have recorded my VHS copies of Airplane and the Neverending Story onto DVD-rs with no problem (When T tried earlier to do a VHS-VHS taping with these and similar tapes, I learned they had Macrovision).

The poblem occurs with Disney VHS. I spent good money on these VHS's when they first came out (upwards of $30 in 1990s $) and I don't particularly want to spend $20 to buy replacement DVDs. I just want the movies on a DVD, and if I already own the VHS, there is no legal reason why I shouldn't be able to do this. In fact, legally I am permitted to.

Is there anyway inexpensive ($15 or less) or freeI can circumvent the macrovision thats seeming only on Disney tapes? Anyone else have this problem?

By the time you buy a good quality TBC you could have purchased new Re mastered DVD. Leaps and bound over what you will get from your VHS ones. I too have all the Disney VHS and the new remastered DVDs. I have an old VHS machine that for whatever the reason ignores Macrovision so I'm lucky in that regard. However the results are dismal compared to the DVD versions.

I've run into the exact same problem with backing up Disney VHS tapes
    Good Luck!

I've decided that if I really want to preserve one of these, I'll buy the DVD. The quality is amazingly better, though Disney's DVD release policy really sucks.
