  1. Hi,

    Two computers:

    IDE (two drives)

    SATA (two drives)

Took IDE drive D: (backup) configured in SATA computer. SATA MY Computer did not see the new drive. Device Manager did… said disk is working properly. Went to Disk Management.. Imported disk… then no problem… could see disk and all data.

Took the disk out, put it back in IDE computer. In IDE computer, My Computer does not see the disk (same as above, Device Manager sees it) BUT, NOW when I go to Disk Management (IDE computer), cannot (repeat) cannot import disk. “action failed”.

    Frustrating! My knowledge is limited!

Some of your terms are confusing me. When you say 'configure', do you mean partition and format?

And when you say 'import', you lost me completely. Do you mean you marked the partition as 'Active' in the Disk Management window? Then it would be set up as a bootable disk.

No, I mean take a backup hdd physically out of an IDE computer, and plug the drive into a SATA computer via its IDE controller.

No, I mean in Disk Management, the drive is listed there, but as “Foreign”.

“Import” means, from Disk Management, after right clicking, “Import Foreign Disks” is an option. Thus my use of the word “Import”.

Without knowing what you have been doing to the disc while it was in the other machine, it is hard to say where your problem lies. It could be related to the interface switching (IDE - SATA), or something you have done to the disk while it was it in the IDE machine.
