Hi everyone,
I have an European disc which the ripped movie on the HD became unplayable after I removed macrovision from the files. Is this common or just somehow European discs are "made" differently?
More importantly, is there a fix? I thought Macrovision is only prohibiting someone from trying to dub a movie using the analog method, which I am not planning to do; but somehow when I disabled macrovision -- using FreeDVD -- PowerDVD failed to recognize the DVD structure (no error messages or crashes, I just can't get into the movie at all, almost like a blank vob file preventing me from accessing the menu). Do I have to leave Macrovision in in order to have a playable back up?
Any ideas/tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You probably did something wrong on your ripping step.
Macrovision is just a "bit setting" on the DVD. AFAIK, there is no DVD programming that can test this bit and abort playback.ICBM target coordinates:

There are loads of guides etc. here (& elsewhere) on getting DVD content on your HD. Several tools are also mentioned. Usually not a prob, & when it is, you'll find something on it by searching including the title.
